Dungeons, grouping and loot......

There are many dungeons throughout the world of warcraft, in game you often hear of them refered to as instances, this is because when a party enters the dungeon, they receieve their own 'instance' of it. That means if you form a party with your friends, then go inside the dungeon entrance and another person forms a party among his friends and goes into the same entrance, you will not see him or his party. Although you are in the same dungeon, you are in different instances of the dungeon.

Dungeons are a great source of experience, gear, and fun! You will often make new friends while in an instance because they can take an hour or more to complete and this is time you may spend getting to know your party members while killing mobs. The low level dungeons do not usually have very much strategy to them, but you will still need the usual group make-up of at least 3 DPS, 1 Tank and 1 healer.

Forming a party is fairly simple, once you find other people who are interested in doing the same dungeon as you, you can invite them by typing /invite playername you can also ask them to invite you if they already have a group started. Leaving a group is as easy as right-clicking your portrait in the top left of the screen and choosing the option to leave the party.

There are 19 dungeons available in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, Blizzard has a list of them here along with a short description, level suggestion and map link of its location.

A game as popular as WoW has its share of rude players, this is especially common in the lower levels because there are a lot of young teenagers (who dont seem able to get past level 40) and some of them seem to think that manners on the internet is a waste of time. There are also a lot of 'veteran' players who are starting a new character (often called an alt or alternate character) and they can become easily frustrated with new players who dont understand the game as well as they do. If you get a lot of flack from them, just explain that you're new to the game.

One of the best parts of a dungeon is the loot. You will find one or more 'bosses' inside and they usually drop better than average loot. This can be a problem when you don't know how to roll correctly. When something of uncommon (green) quality or better drops, a box will pop up on your screen with a link of the item and next to it a dice and coin. Examine the item and see if it is something you NEED as an upgrade on your current gear (see the armor section to be sure you know how to gear your char) if you need it, press the DICE button. If you don't need it, you can press the coin to roll 'greed' this is what most players will do, that means if no one needs it, the game will randomly choose among the greed rollers who receives it and the winner can sell it for some extra money.

If you go around rolling 'need' on everything or on things that you clearly don't need, you could be labeled ninja and find yourself removed from the group! Most rare (blue) quality items are bind-on-pickup (BoP) so if you take it, its bound to your character, you cannot sell or give it to another player. This is to prevent people rolling on items just to sell them. They're worth quite little to a vendor, but worth a lot to a player who needs it.

When an item is soul bound to you, it doesn't mean that you're stuck wearing that item forever! It just means that you cant give it to anyone else. Some items are 'Bind on equip' these items can be traded among players and bought/sold on the auction house, it wont become soul bound until you equip it. 'Bind on pick up' items are bound to whoever loots them immediately. Bind on Pick up items always display a warning before you loot/roll on them, this is to make sure you really do want it.
